Energy efficiency evaluation of centrifugal pumps is typically based on ISO 9906 recommendations, which focus
solely on mechanical energy. However, these evaluations rarely consider thermal exergy, despite its significance, especially
for pumps operating in power plants. This paper presents an exergetic analysis of the operation of feed pumps in power plants
and compares it with the method recommended by ISO 9906. Using these two approaches, the efficiency of feed pumps in six
thermal units, with capacities ranging from 360 MW to 900 MW, is assessed. The results show that efficiency values can differ
by 5-6%.
